About RetroPlay

RetroPlay is an experiment in doing retro gaming the documented way: a small, curated library where every single game carries its license and source on its page.

What we host

Homebrew released under open licenses (MIT, GPL, MPL, Creative Commons), shareware episodes whose license text encourages copying, and full games their publishers officially released as freeware. Nothing else.

What we never host

Commercial ROMs, BIOS files, and anything marked non-commercial or no-distribution. Two classic platforms (SNES and Mega Drive) are absent for now because their accurate emulator cores are not cleared for commercial use in the stable toolchain we use — we would rather wait than cut corners.

Your files stay yours

The player page runs game files locally in your browser tab. Files you open are never uploaded, and saves live in your browser's storage on your device.

Privacy & analytics

This site has no accounts and sets no tracking cookies. We use a self-hosted Umami instance for anonymous, aggregate page statistics (pages viewed, plays started); it collects no personal data, builds no cross-site profile, and shares nothing with third parties. Local game saves never leave your device.

Takedown

If you are a rights holder and believe something here is misclassified, email [email protected]. We verify every license before listing, and we will remove material promptly on a valid request.
